Helpful Tips

Question 9a - 3 Marks

• Need 3 points here!!

• Can be point form

• Don´t need evidence from the text, just write it!!!

• Underline the keyword from the question so you focus your response

• ​Reading time - During the 5 minute reading time, you should have this answered using the ¨trick in class¨

Question 9b - 2 Marks

• Write 2 messages that are conveyed

• One is usually written in the caption/title

• Identify the characters, (country, leader, etc…)

• Look for small details

• Make sure to look in the background as well.

• If it is a photo or a graph, the same tips apply (caption, what does the data say)

• Reading time - During the 5 minute reading time, you should have this answered using the ¨trick in class¨​

Question 10 - 4 Marks

• Identify if it is a Primary or Secondary source as there are basic values and limits that usually apply (use the list)

• Origin – all the info is in the caption, do not read the text

• Content – completely ignore the origin, only text

• Purpose – usually inform, persuade or explain

• Only need to say value and limit of the origin, value of the purpose, limit of the content

Question 11 - 6 Marks

• Summarize each sentence as you read

• State the opinion/main idea of each

• Start with if they have the same opinion on the event

• Find the similarities and differences by reading your notes

• When writing, organize similarities first and differences second

• Point form is ok

• Make sure you connect directly with the question

• You do not need quotes, just the similarity and difference

• 2 similarities and 2 differences are the minimum, but aim for 3 and 3

Question 12 - 9 Marks

• At this point, you have already read and analyzed all the sources, so you should have a basic answer ready

• You do not need to use all the sources, but it is recommended

• Start with the compare and contrast sources (Where do they agree and differ?)

• Try to come up with 2 different reasons minimum

• Your first sentence should be a Thesis answering the question

• 2 other paragraphs, but not necessary in APAL

• Conclude with your thesis statement

• Clearly state where the info came from

• Use quotes from the sources

• Make sure your own knowledge is integrated and actually connected
